PhotoCore 1.11: seven languages and steadier external drives

PhotoCore now speaks German, French, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese, alongside English, Italian and Spanish. The translation reaches every corner of the app, from the menus to the Help, the exports and the instructions PhotoCore gives to the local model. Testing on external drives also brought five fixes to the Entire indexed history scope.

01

Four more languages

German, French, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese join English, Italian and Spanish. The app follows your Mac's language, or you pick one in Settings > General, where the Language row is now a menu with flag and name.

The translation covers the interface and its menus, the full Help, system prompts, reports and export texts. If you already use PhotoCore in English, Italian or Spanish, nothing changes for you: same labels, same Help, same features.

02

Stories in the language you choose

The story language is set in the composer and can differ from the interface. Titles, captions, table of contents and colophon follow that choice. A Mac set to English can produce a photo book in Japanese for relatives in Osaka, or a web Story in German for friends in Munich.

Nothing about how a Story is built has changed: it is still made on your Mac, as a single web page that opens offline, a print-ready PDF photo book or a poster.

03

A local model briefed in each language

Searching by description has understood more than 100 languages since 1.0. With 1.11 the rest of the app catches up. Natural-language search, Constellation labels and Stories titles rely on the optional local language model, and each language now has its own prompts, written for that language, so titles and labels come out sounding like a native speaker wrote them.

The eighteen search examples under the field are written per language as well. They are phrases a person who speaks that language would actually type, built on the patterns that work best with the model.

04

External drives and the indexed history

In the Entire indexed history and Reachable only scopes, Find similar now searches the whole index. Copies of a photo that live on another drive show up in the results, with the offline mark when that drive is disconnected. Switching scope keeps a similarity search as a similarity search.

If a drive is unplugged while indexing is still writing previews, some cells stay empty while it is away. When you plug it back in, PhotoCore counts the photos without a preview and offers to generate them. Progress shows in the status bar and the drive stays usable in the meantime.

Quick Look, Open with, Reveal in Finder and the high-quality preview now work for photos on a drive other than the open folder, as long as that drive is connected. After I reconnected the drive or Find file, the online state of the photos refreshes at once, and the disconnected-drive sheet stops coming back on every double click.

05

Also in 1.11

  • With a language chosen manually in Settings, the AI analysis of your search phrase follows that language instead of the system one.
  • The Help is complete in all seven languages, with the same sections and the same examples adapted to each language.
  • English, Italian and Spanish keep the same strings, Help and features as in 1.10.
FAQ

Questions about 1.11

Which languages does PhotoCore support?
Seven since version 1.11: English, Italian, Spanish, German, French, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese. Interface, menus, Help, reports, exports and Stories are translated in all of them. Search by description understands more than 100 languages whatever the interface language.
How do I change the language of PhotoCore?
By default the app follows the language of your Mac. To use a different one, open Settings > General and pick it from the Language menu.
Can a Story be in a different language from the app?
Yes. You choose the story language in the composer, independently of the interface. Titles, captions, table of contents and colophon follow it.
Does Find similar find copies on a disconnected drive?
Yes, in the Entire indexed history scope. Copies on a drive that is not connected appear in the results with the offline mark. To open one, connect that drive.
Why are some thumbnails empty after I unplugged a drive?
The drive was disconnected while indexing was still writing previews. Plug it back in: PhotoCore counts the photos without a preview and offers to generate them, with progress in the status bar.
