PhotoCore 1.8: select, compare, pick
The problem it solves: ten near-identical shots and no comfortable way to look at them together. 1.8 brings Compare into PhotoCore, up to four photos side by side with synced zoom, and makes the gallery behave like Finder. Almost all of this release comes from suggestions people sent us.

Compare
Select two to four shots and hit Compare: they open together, large, above your gallery. Zoom and pan are synced, so when you zoom into a detail on one photo the others follow and you compare like for like. Double-click to switch between fit and actual size.
Each pane shows the quality score PhotoCore computes from sharpness, exposure and faces: it is a number to orient you, the choice stays yours. Press 1, 2, 3 or 4 to mark your pick, and the star stays on the photo in the gallery too, and after a restart.
The gallery behaves like Finder
Click selects, cmd-click adds or removes, shift-click takes the whole range. Cmd-A selects every visible photo, Esc clears the selection. Arrow keys move the selection and the grid scrolls to follow it.
The space bar opens and closes Quick Look on the selected photo, exactly like in Finder. Inside the preview, arrow keys browse the photos in the grid, and when you close it you are still on the photo you reached.
More new features and fixes
- Reveal in Finder highlights every selected photo, not just the first. The same goes for Share and Rename.
- You can drop a folder from the recents list in the sources menu, even when its drive is disconnected. Photos already indexed stay searchable.
- Left and right arrow keys in Quick Look now actually browse the photos in your grid.
- A Pick takes priority over the automatic Best Shot star: in a group of similar shots you see one star, yours.
- Gallery cells announce themselves properly to VoiceOver, with file name and selection state.
- Every new label speaks English, Italian and Spanish from day one, alongside minor performance and stability improvements.
